Now News That Reinstated Teacher Brought His Bigotry To The Classroom!!

Most of you probably heard or read the story in the past couple of weeks of Jerry Buell, the Lake County, Florida teacher who was suspended from his teaching job after leaving comments on his facebook page regarding the passing of same-sex marriage in New York.  He said things such as it made him throw up and compared same-sex marriage to a cesspool.  Once the comments where brought to light, he was suspended pending an investigation.  Well of course the religious right jumped in to protect him from the evil gays, and Mr. Buell was reinstated to his job quickly once the KKK stated they would picket the school on the teachers behalf.

Now it appears to be far worse than we imagined.  Equity Florida has discovered that not only did Mr. Buell take his hatred of gays to his facebook page but to the classroom as well.

A growing number of  students have come forward to describe Mr. Buell's homophobic behavior in the classroom.  Brian Blaise, an honors student who graduated in 2003, described the day Mr. Buell offered his disturbing take on the issue of gays serving in the military:

"I looked up when he said he supported gays in the military, stunned by the answer.  He immediately followed the comment, with the statement that we should then put them on the front lines, and pull back," Blaise said.

Another of his students recounted Mr. Buell invoking the quote, " pig in a tuxedo is still a pig" to declare his disdain for recognizing gay relationships.

Equality Florida is asking everyone to send an email to the school district requesting that they expand their anti-bullying and non-discrimination policies to include sexual orientation and gender identity.

This "teacher" who said that he teaches as if Jesus himself were in the classroom needs to be removed from teaching period!   Bigoty and hatred have no place in any classroom and I believe that Jesus would agree with me!!  Please take a moment to fill out the form and send emails and also give Mount Dora High School a phone call @ 352-383-2177 telling them that you feel Mr. Buell should be once again removed from the classroom.
